Set to serve as a major thoroughfare through a densely traveled area in Raleigh County, West Virginia, the Beckley Z-Way is a 5.5 mile long stretch of new highway that will run from Shady Spring to Beaver and into Beckley. With traffic congestion wreaking havoc on the area as parts of Raleigh County are flourishing with growth, this yearslong project is aimed at alleviating commuter frustrations and offering a connectivity plan for all.
While one massive project, the Beckley Z-Way has been broken into two separate contracts for construction. One being awarded to Mountaineer Contractors and the other to be completed by Kanawha Stone Company.

Slated to begin construction in the Spring of 2024, the Beckley Z-Way’s first section will be constructed by Mountaineer Contractors, and the second section will be completed by Kanawha Stone Company. The Thrasher Group will monitor both sections of the project.
The Beckley Z-Way is anticipated to be completely constructed in 48 months.
Section One: set to begin Spring 2024
Section Two: set to begin Spring 2024
As with any major roadway or infrastructure project – delays are to be expected. Conscious efforts to minimize those impacts are be implemented. Check back on this site as the project is progressing to stay ahead of any planned traffic disruptions during the course of the project.
The Beckley Z-Way will have staged construction activities taking place during various times of day dependent upon weather and scope of section. Travelers should expect both daytime and night activity sporadically.
